Me and the Management
I am thinking they like this photo, it is another of our favourite places, Port Isaac in Cornwall.

I am a weimaraner called Dexter. The Management, thats Dave and Leza, have set me up with a blog so I can tell you about my life and the stuff that goes on in my world. Being a dog is a pretty good life, things are pretty simple really and this blog is a reminder to you all that life doesn't have to be that complicated.

I can tell you really love your dog. We are getting our first weimaraner on July 20th. I am hoping we will have as much fun. Very cute website.
Hello Dexter & Management:
First of all, great site! Secondly, we are thinking seriously of getting a Weimaraner. We have a 12 yr. old female Dalmatian who lives inside and three Heinz 57 dogs from various and sundry places who live outside. The Weim would be inside as well. Also - three horses on 10 acres. Was wondering how Dexter thoughta female of his breed might fit in - Your thoughts, please Dex (ask the mgmt. if needed)
Hi Leslie,
That's quite a collection you already have there. Dexter cannot be trusted to give you an unbiased opinion as he's totally convinced he is wonderful in every way. I agree with him up to a point! When we were deciding which kind of dog to have I did some net surfing as you obviously are, I came across one description of the breed which said they're 'rambunctious' and I've never heard a more accurate description.
Bitches are supposedly more placid than dogs. Dexter came to us through Weimaraner Rescue and all the dogs from his litter had had to be rehomed. They're very affectionate which spills into over-protective; they HATE kennels, definitely house dogs (they actually prefer the bed); they chase and flatten/kill anything that runs; they have boundless energy and are way too clever. Dexter can open the gate and I caught him the other day swiping at the bolt on the kitchen door with one paw...! They'll eat anything and can counter-surf for England and they punish you if they feel neglected - which doesn't always take much.
As you're used to big dogs that need lots of exercise you should be fine. Just make sure you get all the training sorted out early on. Dexter was 2 1/2 when we got him and had had no training so it was an uphill struggle (we still haven't properly managed 'drop'). Weim puppies are notoriously destructive too by the way.
They are beautiful, intelligent and very loving, we adore Dex and would be utterly lost without him (but don't tell him his head is big enough already).
Hope that helps, sorry to go on but it is an important decision. I found it useful to read the posts on the American weim owners forum (but I can't find the site now), this quiz on the UK forum looks good: http://www.weimaranerforum.org/weimquiz/0100.htm it certainly covers most of the weimy habits.
If I can be of any further help or if you have any specific questions don't hesitate. It might also be a good idea to chat with someone at the Weimaraner Club of G.B. they arrange the rescue programme and are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Good Luck whatever you decide.
Leza
I regularly keep and eye on what Dexter is up to, and thought I would throw my two cents in as well.
I grew up with at least 2 Dallys in the house at all times - quite a childhood. Now I have my own home and 2 Weims (zoeandlola.blogspot.com).
I would echo many of the things that describe Dexter - the only thing extra I may have to offer is the experience with Dallys and the joy of having Zoe who is 14 months old and Lola, who is 5 months old.
I would be happy to share my experiences with you, and provide any input that I can.
You can reach me through Zoe's Blog.
Thanks,
Chris
Hello and thanks for the grat feedback. From everything each of you has said, it sounds as if Dals & Weims are a great deal alike. I actually looked on a Weim rescue site & am very interested in perhaps taking that route. I would hate to miss out on the puppy stage, however. . .
Again, thank you. Dexter and the management have a new fan!
